The thriving village
of Sabinillas, with ambitions to be a
town, is the nearest shopping destination,
lying in the next bay to Casares Del Mar
some 2 km to the south-west. Sabinillas
is overlooked by the small town of Manilva
that sits astride the hilltop behind it.
You can reach Sabinillas
in a matter of minutes by car, or alternatively
walk along the beach and follow the shoreline,
past the Cheringita (beach restaurant),
around the old Salt Tower into the adjoining
sandy bay. The village has its own seafront
promenade lined with small restaurants
and bars and includes many fine speciality
fish restaurants. Sabinillas has all the
stores to meet your normal shopping needs,
with outlets of two major supermarkets
and many smaller shops providing everything
from furniture to bedding and electronics
to ironmongery.
The Sabinillas market
takes place every Sunday morning on the
outskirts of the village on the valley
road that leads to the Ancient Roman Baths
where legend has it Julius Cesar used
to bathe. It is a lively combination of
the normal Spanish market goods plus antiquities
and junk. Get there at 9:30am on Sunday
to beat the crowds.
