In
the mountains behind the Costa del
Sol, taking the road from Manilva
on the coast towards Ronda (A369),
lies the ancient white town of Casares.
The principal town for this area
with an historic past, with control
of the surrounding country down
to the coast, Casares is perched
on the side of the sierras and overlooks
the valleys and rivers that wind
down to the Mediterranean in the
distance. Its narrow streets, interesting
buildings, historic location and
it’s stunning views make this
a popular destination for people
touring the area.
Casares
is one of the most beautiful ‘white
villages’ in Andalucia. The
village is built down the sides
of a mountain and because of this
is called a ‘hanging village’.
At the peak of the mountain are
the ruins of an 8th century Moorish
castle. |
